ABOUT US
Welcome To Vintage Wings Wax Boutique
The home of luxury fragranced accessories with a pinch of extra love for you to enjoy within your home or to gift to family, friends and loved ones. We have designed a delightful collection of hand poured soy wax candles and wax melts. Each fragrance has been carefully chosen and have been uniquely named, not only capturing the essence of the fragrance, the feeling they give to you and moments they remind you of once your home is enveloped in a mist of pure indulgence. In addition, some of the fragrances we have chosen for the collection have an incredibly special meaning to us. All made in our cosy workshop in Manchester.
I have always had a strong passion for home fragrance, with candles being my number one treat for self-care and relaxation. There was never and still is never a time since my late teens that I didn’t have at least one candle or wax warmer in each room of my home melting away every evening. There is no better feeling than coming home after a hard day, relaxing in a bath full of potions, with a candle flickering softly with its aromas soothing your soul.
Then came along our beautiful dog . All my family and friends could not believe I had gotten a dog with my OCD ways but as the saying goes and I now know just how true these words are “A house is not a home without a pet” She came to us at 8 weeks old she lit up our world much brighter than any candle you could ever buy. There was one thing, she had extremely severe skin issues and allergies. The vet said you will have to give up all the plug ins, air fresheners, harsh cleaning products, candles and melts as they have too many nasties in them, all the things I absolutely love. I of course gave them all up immediately. After spending an exorbitant amount of money over the years on all these products I started researching safer products for the home. This led to me thinking about safer natural ways to make these products for myself without agitating her lifelong condition.
I spent many years in the little spare time I had after work researching and gathering information. As a vegetarian and animal lover, it was also important to find suppliers that followed that same ethos of not using any products tested on animals, they had to be 100% cruelty free. I started to order items in small amounts, just having fun really it kept me away from baking and eating all the goodies I had made, healthy baking I called it. There is so much involved in this craft, legalities, regulations, finding the right suppliers, testing, wastage, It was a costly hobby to have but none the less it became the highlight of my evenings.
When I finally decided on where I wanted to take this business to my grandfather became poorly. As a family we spent hours and days with him talking about the past, the future and I remember an evening we all spent together where grandad said you need to just go for this now, it makes you happy, it makes you smile. They were all having good ideas of what to name this new venture. Some very good suggestions from my daughters, grandfather and a hilarious one from my brother. I will treasure that evening forever. But we had more important things to deal with and as time passed so did our dear grandfather. Things would never be the same and I pushed aside that plan and tried to get on with my career, my safe place. Going into this now would be doing it an injustice, I would be planning to fail in my eyes.
In the November after him passing I was ready to look at it again, so the name. I had already decided on wax boutique as part of it so now to choose the rest, it had to be something that reminded me of grandfather. I had placed a pair of angel wings into his jacket with our letters to him, so I then had wings, I have a love for all things vintage and he was a vintage gentleman so there it became Vintage Wings Wax Boutique. I wanted unique names for the fragrances that I had carefully chosen so they would all be named with wings after each one.
I had to choose a graphic designer I gave him the name, a little background of what had pushed me to go ahead with my plan and the only vision I gave him was I wanted to have wings and a sleek design. Within a few days he came back to me with a logo. He said he had opted for a steel look, he said he didn’t know why he had been brought to steel for a candle company, but something had pushed him in that direction. I couldn’t believe it, I loved the logo and when I told him my grandfather had owned a sheet metal engineering firm we were both amazed by his design choice. Maybe a sheer coincidence however I like to think of it as my grandfather is supporting me from a far.
In memory of James William Curtis, 10% of all sales from his candle Gentleman's Wings will be donated to cancer research.
I hope you enjoy our collection as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
